Fairytales, sea creatures and mythical concepts motivate much of my art taking me to an experimental place where I explore with colour and form, expressing nature in an abstracted, representational and whimsical manner with hints of surrealism.
I am a self taught artist and have been painting seriously since 2008. I enjoy using acrylic as my main medium and creating vibrant, vivid artworks. Currently I have begun to experiment and explore with new materials such as ply wood and vinyl to work on, playing around with mixed media to give the artwork a new dimension or feel. I particularly enjoy creating layer upon layer with acrylic that has been thrown onto, machine blown or blended for the backgrounds of my paintings to give an illusion of depth. Whether it is a scene from under the sea, on land or above the clouds, the viewer can experience a quirky, yet dreamy ambience. I like to position out-of-place creatures or objects for amusement in my paintings to give the idea that the characters are stuck in a dreamscape – where anything goes.

Elly Wright about 2 yearsI admire your sketchbook and portfolio pieces. Like 'Dandy Afternoon' a lot. Your way of using acrylics is a bit like my own, but the results are different. Beautiful! |
