Claire Lau

My work grows from a deep passion in portraying Nature. This ranges from simply describing its neglected beauty through landscape paintings, to making critical commentary on the human’s disrespect for the environment through painting, sculpture and installations. I grew up in Hong Kong, a metropolitan city in which economic prosperity overrides any desire to protect the quickly degrading environment. Consequently my artworks often translate the struggle of the environment into metaphorical illustrations, using Mother Earth to embody nature, or a weathering stone sculpture to symbolize nature’s “reconquering” force.
