I received my formal art education from Rhode Island School of Design later graduating from Portland State University. In the past, I have enjoyed working as both freelance illustrator and art teacher but found that nothing can replace the personally reflective experience of being a studio artist. I am constantly cataloging and tucking away images into my mind. When I reach back to incorporate them into a painting, the details have become less important to me resulting in an emotional remembrance of the images rather than a technical one. It is this “emotional remembrance” of bold colors and expressive line encapsulated within a familiar image, that I am compelled to share.

I LOVE your crow!  I love crow paintings and think I will study pix of them to become more familiar with actual shape and do some myself  Thanks for the inspiration.  Great advice in your bio line!

Hi there Darcie!  I enjoyed viewing your paintings.  You have a wonderful confident use of the paint and excellent composition.  I also, juggled teaching and my own creating time for many years but am now free to play in my studio!  All the best from Laara WilliamSen Canada

Hi Darcie,  I just read a book you might like, called CORVUS, about crows.  Have you read it?

Thank you for you comment Darcie.  I have never painted a raven or a crow.  I started this series about two years ago.  I figure I am going to work my way through exploring a variety of birds; then perhaps, I will choose my favorites and do a mini series exploring just them. I will get to the raven eventually.  It is always good getting comments on your work.  I feel really good about the pieces I have been creating, but have been frustrated.  I have entered several exhibitions with my birds, and I have had no success, they are never accepted.  For an artist who is trying to make a name for herself and build a career, it can be frustrating.  I just tell myself, "Don't worryy about what anyone thinks, just be true to yourself and keep working."
