Donna Jackson

ARTIST BIO   Donna Jackson is an emerging artist in the Houston, Texas community. Donna has been a practicing graphic designer and is currently the Branding and Design Manager for Houston Public Library.  As a graphic designer, Donna dedicated her talent to the non-profit sector and had the opportunity to create for such organizations as  United Way of Detroit, Detroit Public Library , Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History and currently Houston Public Library. Her skills as a creative have excelled in the past decade moving her from entry level graphic design opportunities to her current position of Branding and Design Manager.   In 2008, Donna headed the team that developed the current Houston Public Library identity. Her work has been recognized by the American Library Association who awarded the Houston Public Library Communication Team with the 2009 American Library Association Marketing Award. In 2007, Donna made a decision to pursue a career as a professional fine artist, bringing the same passion that she has for graphic design into her art career. Other than becoming a successful exhibiting artist, Donna plans to partner with art therapist and art therapy organizations as a workshop presenter. Donna’s paintings are abstract female nudes that combine traditional African shapes and figures with vibrant colors. Donna’s desire is to convey a different feminine beauty that goes beyond skin, clothing, and size and into the core of who women are and can be. Donna works mostly in acrylics, but has an extensive collection of black and white illustrations as well as collages depicting a similar subject. Her use of black animation-like lines can be seen in her paintings and illustrations alike.  Her first group exhibit will be this Fall at the Houston Public Library, kicking off a new art series called HPL Art Project. This is a project that Donna is managing in hopes to bring art, library, and community together. Donna is originally from Detroit, Michigan. She is currently a resident of Houston, Texas.
