INSIDE OUT
Kristin Swenson-Lintault
Northwest Encaustic Studio
January 9 - February 5, 2010
"I have always been inspired to create work that deals with extracting the essence of some aspect of nature. My current body of work titled INSIDE OUT is part of an ongoing series examining origins, connections and lifelines. I use my interest and research in fiber/textile history as a basis of my imagery that connects aspects of natural forms derived from trees, bonsai, roots, labyrinths, veins, umbilical cords, plant cells, knots, skeins, Japanese Shimenawa sacred ropes and Incan khipu to suggest strength, vitality, continuum, nourishment and ancestral links. My process of incorporating rope, thread, string, fabric, ink and graphite with encaustic paint combines my drawing sensibilities with visual depth utilizing the inherent sculptural qualities of wax."
