William Mwazi
Guangzhou, Guangdong, China blog.artintern.net"William Mwazi's Chinese Connection" Statement I as a child I always wondered about my family’s history when it came to my racial make-up. I felt never Afro-American enough and Definitely not Asian a enough. Even when I talk about my family history; a history that I am proud of. It’s always call in to question. And at other times out of the blue some others come right out and tell me that they see my or ask me about my Asian-ness. And when that happens I fee l really good just for the simple fact that I am being acknowledged. And not made to fell like I am being delusional . William Mwazi’s Chinese Connection is a visual exploration in to my Chinese cultural heritage, by researching China’s historical , famous, and mystical icons. I get more insight to where part of me comes from. My Chinese Connection comes from my grandfather who was born in Canton ( Guangzhou ) his name was Chu Dong Yee. A man that was brave enough to come to a new land and make a better life from himself and his children. I just hope my grandfather would be proud of his grandson, as I make my way back to discover where he came from.
