Bill Donovan is a painter and draftsman who has moved a lot, and now lives in New York. In 2004-05 Bill spent a year in Afghanistan with the National Guard as a machine gunner in the turrets of HMMWV vehicles, and was awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. He self published a book titled How to Draw Pictures in Kandahar, Pretext No. 1 , which consists of selections from eleven sketchbooks he filled while stationed in Kandahar, Texas, and Kyrgyzstan. He has been included in several zine anthologies, and is the New York representative for Zine Arcade a British publication. Bill’s drawings cover a wide range of subject matter, from meticulously drawn portraits of Hollywood starlet Scarlett Johansson to eerily developed cartoon characters to life drawings, and often include text and stories. His painting is similar subject matter, and has recently begun to combine the cartoon and the realistic imagery into dynamic compositions. Bill has a blog www.inkstainedhands.com
