My work represents the
blurring of physical and virtual
realms, particularly within digital metaverses such as video games and
online social networks. I was inspired to create in this manner while
playing Call of Duty, a World War II
based video game. While I was playing the game, a friend was serving
in Iraq. The connection between the visual
imagery of the game and correspondence with my friend compelled me to
seek out the difference and similarities between virtual and physical
worlds. Since that event, I've continued to document my
experiences in-world and allow the boundaries between physical and
digital life to blur. The paintings are printed on layers of
transparent material and sandwiched in clear acrylic. This
transparent, layered imagery mimics the layers of data that form our
experiences.
