Been drawing seriously since I was 8, just didn't know it was serious then! I teach high school art in a Catholic school and love my students. I have 3 daughters- an Art Historian, a geologist, and a writer; my husband is a letter carrier and map-maker.
I was trained as a surface designer, but never found the right job to keep me there. I also can't pick a favorite medium so teaching is a way to do a bit of everything. I like the control of drawing a lot but I tend not to be a realist. I also take a lot of photos and consider being in a darkroom as close to heaven. Lately my work has revolved around words-- book altering, text in the artwork, words as artwork. Two years ago I gave each of my advanced students a word and they had to define the word visually, much like the current mini-canvas project.
I'm interested in all kinds of different work and find it hard, again, to pick a favorite style or artist. I have a real interest in science and find a great deal of inspiration in sea life, insects, and microscopic structures.

Nichol Brown almost 3 yearsI like the fact that you don't stay in one medium. It gives you the freedom to be open to whatever creative idea comes up. I feel that is a good place to be. |
