I am a painter living and working in Fort Greene, Brooklyn, NY. I recently graduated from CUNY Hunter College with my MFA, and I am a member of the adjunct faculty at Fordham University in the Bronx. My recent paintings deal with issues of light and color to create active visual relms. My work is rooted in the abstract sublime, and I owe a great deal to the New York School, 5o's and 60's abstraction, more recently David Row, David Reed, Mary Heilman, and Bill Jensen, Tomma Abts, and as always Monet, Bonnard and Matisse.
As I downsized my space to the small backroom of my apt, I have actually enjoyed a return to smaller more intimate work. My studio practice has evolved with the space, and drawing, small works on paper and sketchbooks replace large scale canvas. I am working more from nature and intuition, thinking less, working more directly with the mediums and allowing process to influence content.

Gregg Emery almost 3 yearsI used squeegees for many of them, I checked out your website, definitely see the David Reed influence....but I like your layering even more, I always liked Reed's technique but left feeling a little distanced, cold. |

Gregg Emery almost 3 yearsI will definitely check out your work. I first started checking out David row's work in grad school too. he was a visiting artist and David Reed gave a talk too. check out my flickr site when you get a chance, think you might like some of my paintings even more than the drawings. |
