Sketchbooks are the centre of my creative processes ... as notebook, for writing, travelogue, visual shorthand, as diary ... everything goes into the sketchbook of the day.  Small pads for smart, as big as the gear will sustain on the hoof.  Sketchbooks come to the studio to provide the reference and basis of all the painting and writings I try. To work a sketchbook for it's own sake is a novelty.  To force the pace on each page beyond the practical base motif, the single word memo has been the delight of this book; to sequence and develop ideas from page to page so like, but so unlike prose.  My theme 'figuring you out' has me beguiled.  Am I figuring you the viewer, or are you figuring me as you flip the pages?  I shall miss having this book around and hope You the viewer get the fascination I felt making it.
