"My process has been varied but I have always been inspired to create work that deals with extracting the essence of some aspect of nature. My current body of work titled INSIDE OUT is part of an ongoing series examining origins, connections and lifelines. I use my interest and research in fiber/textile history, Japanese aesthetic, and natural forms to build imagery derived from trees, bonsai, roots, labyrinths, veins, umbilical cords, plant cells, knots, skeins, Japanese Shimenawa sacred ropes and Incan khipu to suggest strength, vitality, continuum, nourishment and ancestral links. My process of incorporating rope, thread, string, fabric, ink and graphite with encaustic paint combines my drawing sensibilities with visual depth utilizing the inherent sculptural qualities of wax."
