Ever since my first box of crayons was given to me by my dear mother, I have been fascinated by what could come out on paper just by the use of the simple tool in my hand whether it be crayon, pencil, pen or brush. Give me a medium to add color and I'm in one of the happiest moments of my life. My background is in both interior and graphic design. It is detail that I love and so it is the detail that attracts me to drawing botanicals, with drybrush watercolor being my favorite medium. I love to study the morphology of plant life. The plants and flowers led me to animals. It's all about life! I am a member of the Guild of Natural Science Illustrators and The Philadelphia Society of Botanical Illustrators. I teach classes in botanical illustration in Central New Jersey, specializing in a basic, gentle approach that shows beginners who think they cannot draw how wrong they can be.

Hi, thanks for the website link... very interesting! This week I am thinking about a new series of paintings done in encaustics. I thought about how much beauty I come across in a single morning walk around my neighborhood. So, I thought about painting what I see and come across on just a few blocks. It is amazing what you can see if you really look.

My first painting is going to be about these turkey vultures that I saw yesterday swirling in the sky and swooping down to nosh on avocados in my neighbors front yard. There must have been thirty of them! They look pretty scary, yet disturbingly beautiful. I had no idea they ate avocados. I thought they could only eat dead animals.

Anyway, thanks for inspiring me... Nancy

Thank you for your lovely comments! My DH is very special indeed, how lucky for me! I am so glad you saw the improvement in my drawings! That was the whole idea for this project - I wanted to use the project as a venue for dedicated and sustainted practice in the area I wanted to get better. I too am amazed at the results of a sustained practice. We all heard about how it works, but to see it work on your own drawing board is really an eye-opener.
