NY
after a physical assault left me disbaled depressed without a support system and without adequate funds to support myself a dear friend pushed me into the art world.  yes, pushed me.  i was resistant scared and confused but he pushed me even harder.  after i was able to walk again i did take some classes and earned two degrees there: psychology of addictions and a bachelors in fine arts.  as my mind opened up i realized why i had previously lived a life of confusion...the people i met in the studios spoke my language and i understood with clarity.  i escaped from my physical pain into imagery and proceeded to earn a masters in fine art.  now i use what i have learned to assist other people, many differently abled and at risk, to find some peace in the private worlds that they live in.  i also show my work in many venues, as well as on line, and do professional photography which i have earned awards for along with my paintings. i am amazed at what i have found in the world of art.

Wow.  You sound like an amazing person to have come out of something bad and making it into a cathartic rebirth.  That's great.  Your documentary is wonderful too.

Shannon,

What a wonderful post you left for me! I was completely taken with your bio and the mountain you climbed to get back to living...I only know a handful of people who have faced adversity and conquered it. You are a powerful woman, and don't ever think otherwise!

I am just back to the internet since moving from Ohio to Virginia. Exhausted and bone weary, but happy to be here. I will say that your art is fabulous, and I am going to dedicate some time to look more closely after I get the unpacking done.

Take care, and thank you so much for your kind words...that was a nice thing to see when I logged on today!

Thanks for the support... It was a conscience effort to focus on a mission and a style. I am usually all over the place and it is hard for other people to understand my work. A while ago a very successful artist told me that anyone can produce a painting, but to create a cohesive body of work is very difficult. Every time I stray I hear his voice...

Great photos! Looks like you had a lot of fun with the million little pieces project. What are you working on now? I just signed up for the sketchbook. Thanks for replying...
