I've been doing artwork since the age of two.  Bubble people and animals.  They were great!  I finally perfected the realism of figurative work as an adolescent.  It's unfortunate I was into realism at a time when post modernism and minimalism was "in."  So that led me to graphic design and technical illustration.  My next career got me into urban design which was great fun!  But now I'm retired and doing all the experimentation in art that I never got to do while in such restrictive careers.  TIME FOR FUN!!!!  I spend much of my sketching time on musicians and desert botanicals.  Kind of a strange combination but that's it.  The musicians  are sketched while they are performing.  So it's quite a challenge to get details.  I go with my mood so sometimes the sketches are quite loose and fluid, other times quite detailed and specific.  The botanicals are fairly easy as they don't move.  So I have an advantage there.  I try to take different approaches with them and experiment.

Hi Terri, Today our sketchbooks will be out there to be
shared with whoever is interested. Guess what, I was looking at the
blog and at flickr, both of which are showing some photos of themed
boxes with our books -  I actually saw a corner of my book sticking out (it has
quite a distinctive colourful cover). At least I now know that it
arrived safely! The postal service in UK provided a very erratic
service at the end of last year - wild cat strikes etc. Anyway,  I
wished I could be there to see all the books of my new friends. Good
luck to all of you.

Terri, thank you so much for the nice comments on my Elephant in the room sketchbook.  I got my sketchbook rather late, so you see all of the pages that I completed.  I did glue every page back to back.  The last entry (inside back cover,)featured a 3-D charm so I glued all remaining pages together and cut out the hole so the charm would fit.

I notice you live in Phoenix....so do I.  Let me know if you would ever like to get together and sketch!

Thanks for your kind thoughts, Terri. . .I had trouble working through my theme. I'm getting back into my art, and it's all an adventure for me! Your sketchbook has such simplicity and a terrific visual narrative. Kathy

Congrats on getting that sketchbook mailed off - interesting feeling to send it off into the wild blue yonder into whose hands we'll never know.  I like the feeling of letting go - I need it to balance all the holding on I do in life...I'm  way too sentimental.

I'll  check out the other projects - haven't had time yet.  Holidays did get in the way - we were out of town..keep drawing!

Did you send in your sketchbook?  I was down to the wire with mine...finished with  a more colorful sketch...are you signing up for any other projects?

Terri - thanks so much for your comments on my sketchbook drawings.  Apologies for delay in responding as I was out at Ghost Ranch on a retreat;then 3 days of an open studio and  then a trip to Portland, OR to visit my daughter.  I'm now trying to catch up.  I'm rebelling against my sketchbook "theme".  Really don't like the restriction although trying to be more creative in its interpretation.

I especially like your succulent painting/drawing. You're courageous to attempt to draw musicians at work.  I'm all for things that are still!  Good luck with your sketchbook - look forward to some of your images.  Susan

Thanks you for your kind words. I love to draw from nature and I'm surrounded by the beautiful wichita mountains. Great inspiration for any artist!!
