My art is me – down-to-earth, layered, whimsical and intuitive—and my processes are simple. I just let it come out and pray that I won’t over- or under-do it. With that said, I can never get enough shiny stuff worked into my pieces.
As a child, I spent many hours making things out of cardboard boxes and scrap fabric and reading and concocting stories in my head. I come from a family of artists – painting, calligraphy, drawing, music, acting – but never thought art was my strength. After all, if you can't draw, how can you be an artist?
Luckily, around 1997 or so, I discovered some new ways of creating art: Assemblage and Altered Books. I’ve managed to rekindle my favorite childhood pastimes by working with found objects, rubber stamps and paper to create shrines and other altered art pieces. My favorite art is the stuff that makes me laugh or gasp. I'm learning more about painting and other media that I can incorporate into my work.
Lately, my favorite work is art journaling. I'm finding it to be therapeutic and redemptive. I believe that every person has creativity flowing through their veins, but not everybody knows it about themselves.
